Jackie Sherrill

Jackie Sherrill was a longtime college football head coach. He had tenures as Washington State, Pittsburgh, Texas A&M and Mississippi State. From 1991-2003, Sherrill coached the Bulldogs. They posted six winning seasons and finished inside the top 25 polls four times. Sherrill won the SEC West in 1998 and holds a school record with 75 victories. He experienced his greatest success at Texas A&M. The Aggies won three straight Southwest Conference titles from 1985-87 while Sherrill won SWC Coach of the Year each season. He also had great success at Pittsburgh, recording winning seasons in each of his five years. Sherrill left the school after three consencutive 11-win seasons and major bowl wins. In his final campaign, he was the 1981 Walter Camp Coach of the Year. Sherrill's first head coaching opportunity came with the one season he spent at Washington State. He began his coaching career at his alma mater Alabama in 1966. Sherrill won two national championships as a player under legendary coach Bear Bryant.
