About Herb Magee
Herb Magee is a collegiate basketball coach who has spent the last 47 years as head coach at Philadelphia University. Before becoming the head coach, Magee was a player at Philadelphia University (Then known as Philadelphia College), and he led the Rams to 75 victories while scoring 2,235 points and being named an All-American twice. Magee was drafted by the Boston Celtics in the 1963 NBA Draft, but broken fingers in training camp forced him to retire, and he chose to return to his alma mater as an assistant coach. After four seasons as an assistant, Magee was named the head coach of Philadelphia in 1967, and has been their coach ever since. In 47 years, Magee has amassed 985 wins and has led the Rams to one national championship in 1970. In 2011, Magee was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and is one of the greatest coaches in NCAA history.
