About George Rogers
Prior to joining the New Orleans Saints as the No. 1 overall pick in the 1981 NFL Draft George Rogers had a stellar career at the University of South Carolina. When he rushed for over 1,000 yards as a sophomore in just eight games he was projected to be one of the top backs in the country and he became exactly that over the next two seasons, rushing for 1,681 yards as a junior and topping that performance the following year by posting 1,781 yards as a senior and bringing home the Heisman Trophy.
When he got to the National Football League he made an immediate impact with the Saints, earning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors in 1981 and Pro-Bowl selections in each of his first two years. He’d go on to play four seasons in New Orleans before heading to Washington to finish up his career with the Redskins. In his final season he helped the Redskins to a win in Super Bowl XXII, going out on top like a true legend should. In 1997 he was honored with induction into both the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame.
