About Fergie Jenkins
Ferguson “Fergie” Jenkins Jr. is a former Major League Baseball pitcher. Jenkins was signed in 1962 by a Philadelphia Phillies scout, but it was not until 1965 that Jenkins made his debut as a relief pitcher. The following year, Jenkins was traded to the Chicago Cubs where he became one of the best pitchers in the majors. During his time with the majors, Jenkins has played with the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs, Texas Rangers, and the Boston Red Sox. Jenkins is a three time All-Star for the years 1967, 1971 and 1972. He won the 1971 NL Cy Young Award and the AL Comeback player of the Year Award in 1974. The number 31 is retired from the Chicago Cubs and he is in the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame as well as the Baseball Hall of Fame. Although he is retired, Jenkins leaves a legacy as he led the league twice in wins, fewest walks per 9 innings five times, complete games nine times and home runs allowed seven times.
