Doug Drabek Biography

Doug Drabek is a retired MLB pitcher who played 13 seasons in the league with five different teams. Prior to his time in the MLB, Drabek was a three year starter at the University of Houston, playing well enough to be drafted in the 11th round of the 1983 MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox. While playing in the White Sox’ minor league system, Drabek was traded to the New York Yankees in 1984, eventually making his MLB Debut in 1986. Following the season, Drabek was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he would experience his best success, constantly finishing in the top 10 in the NL ERA category. During the 1990 season, Drabek went 22-6 with a 2.76 ERA, good enough to win the NL Cy Young Award. After the 1992 season, Drabek signed with the Houston Astros, playing for four seasons and earning his first and only All Star bid in 1994. Following one year stints with the Chicago White Sox in 1997 and the Baltimore Orioles in 1998, Drabek retired with a 155-134 record and a 3.73 ERA.
