Derek Brunson Biography

Derek Brunson is a Middleweight mixed martial arts from Wilmington, North Carolina that fights under the banner of Jackson’s MMA and Renzo Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. A blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Brunson got into mixed martial arts after an AllAmerican wrestling career at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. After a successful amateur career he made his pro MMA debut in 2010 and won his first bout via a second round submission hold. In 2011 he joined Strikeforce and impressed by posting a 8-3 overall record and competing for a ShoFight Middleweight Championship. In 2013 he was signed by the UFC and made his debut at UFC 155. Since that time he’s posted a 4-1 record and won Fight of the Night at UFC Fight Night in January 2014. To date he has posted a 12-4 overall record and become one of the top Middleweight contenders in the world. In 2014 he was named Young Alumnus of the Year by UNC Pembroke.
