Dennis Scott Biography


Dennis Scott earned Naismith Prep Player of the Year honors in 1987 while playing at Flint Hill High School in Oakton, Virginia. That season he led his team to a No. 1 national ranking prior to heading to Georgia Tech University and earning Sporting News College Player of the Year, First-Team All-American and ACC Player of the Year honors in 1990. After a decorated career at Georgia Tech he joined the Orlando Magic as a first round selection in 1990 and began a successful professional basketball career. During his first year with the Magic, he earned NBA All-Rookie First Team honors after averaging 15.7 points per game. During his career, he earned the nickname “3-D” for his ability to shoot from beyond the three-point line. In 1992 he posted a career-high average of 19.9 points per game and went on to average 12.9 points per game during his 11 year NBA career with the Magic, Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks, Minnesota Timberwolves and Vancouver Grizzlies. After his retirement in 2000 he joined the NBA TV team as a radio analyst for the Atlanta Hawks and served as the general manager for the Atlanta Vision of the American Basketball Association.
