David Weir

David Weir was born with a spinal cord transection that left him unable to use his legs, but he has never used that as an excuse for not achieving his life’s ambitions in athletics.  Instead, he has overcome the obstacles and become a six-time Paralympic gold medalist.  As a youngster he became a talented wheelchair athlete, winning the junior event at the London Marathon seven times.  Upon turning pro in 2002 he won his first London Marathon and set his sights on the Paralympic games.  In 2004 he made his Paralympic Games debut in Athens and took home a silver medal in the 100m T54 event.  Four years later he competed at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games and won two gold medals in the 800-meter T54 and 1500-meter T54 events, silver in the 400-meter T54 and a bronze in the 5000-meter T54.  At the 2012 Paralympics the hometown boy swept the gold medals in the 800-meter, 1500-meter and 5000-meter T54 events and in the Marathon.  Weir is also a five time World Champion and two-time World Cup champion.
