About Dave Wannstedt
Dave Wannstedt played his collegiate football at the University of Pittsburgh as an offensive tackle and was a 15th round selection of the Green Bay Packers in the 1974 NFL Draft. After one season in the NFL he returned to the University of Pittsburgh as a graduate assistant coach. He remained at his alma mater for three seasons before being named the defensive line coach at Oklahoma State University in 1979. He’d go on to serve in that same role at USC from 1983 to 1985 before heading to the University of Miami as the defensive coordinator from 1986 to 1988. In 1989 he made the jump to the NFL as the defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys, and eventually earned the head-coaching job with the Chicago Bears in 1993 after helping the Cowboys to a win in Super Bowl XXVII. After five seasons with the Bears he joined the Miami Dolphins and served as their defensive coordinator in 1999 and head coach from 2000 to 2004. In 2005 he returned to the college game as the head coach at Pitt from 2005 to 2010. He then returned to the NFL as an assistant with the Bills for two years and then finished his career as the special teams coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2013.
