About Dave Tippett
Dave Tippett played in the NHL as a left wing with the Hartford Whalers, Washington Capitals, Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers from 1983 to 1995. Although Tippett went undrafted, he worked his way into a starting job with the Whalers in 1983 after a stellar career at the University of North Dakota. During his career he also competed on the Canadian National Team and competed in the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo. During his career he was one of the most consistent players in the league, and retired in 1994 with 93 goals and 262 points in 721 career games. After his retirement he began a successful coaching career with the Houston Aeros. Eventually he worked his way back to the NHL as a head coach. From 2002 to 2008 he led the Dallas Stars to five playoff appearances, two 50-win seasons and three 40-win seasons. In 2009, he was hired as the head coach with the Phoenix Coyotes. He won the Jack Adams Award in 2010 and led the franchise to three straight playoff appearances from 2010-12.
