About Dat Nguyen
Dat Nguyen had a unique road to NFL stardom. His parents fleed South Vietnam at the end of the Vietnam War during the fall of Saigon. Nguyen was born at a refugee center in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He went on to be a standout at Texas A&M University. Nguyen played 51 straight games for the Aggies and collected a program-record 517 career tackles. He was a three-time All-Big 12 first-team pick. As a senior, Nguyen was named an All-American and the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. He won the Chuck Bednarik Award, Lombardi Award and Jack Lambert Award. The Dallas Cowboys selected Nguyen in the third round of the 1999 NFL Draft. He spent his entire seven-year career with the Cowboys. Nguyen was a member of the All-Rookie Team in 1999 and was a second-team All-Pro in 2003. Nguyen was named to the Big 12 10th Anniversary Team and the AP All-Time Big 12 Team. He is a member of the Texas A&M Athletic Hall of Fame, the Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame, the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame. Nguyen has spent time in retirement as a coach with the Cowboys and Texas A&M.
