About Clinton Portis
As a standout freshman running back at the University of Miami, Clinton Portis set a school record with five games of at least 100 rushing yards. He had a subpar sophomore season but came back his junior year with 1,200 yards and helped the Hurricanes to win the 2001 National Championship. In 2002 Portis was drafted by the Denver Broncos where he spent the first two seasons of his career, setting an NFL record for 5.5 yards per carry in that stint. Portis was traded to the Washington Redskins in 2004 where he again had two straight seasons of at least 1,300 rushing yards. Portis then began to fall to injuries but was able to bounce back in 2007 and 2008 with back to back years of at least 1,200 rushing yards. Portis has NFL records for being the youngest player to rush for every thousand yard mark from 2,000 to 6,000. Portis finished his career in 2012 falling just shy of 10,000 career rushing yards after just eight seasons in the League.
