About Charles D Smith
Charles D. Smith is a retired professional power forward of the NBA. Smith attended the University of Pittsburgh where was named Big East Player of the Year. Smith became a major force in college basketball when he was ranked as No. 4 nationally at the beginning of the 1987-88 season. Smith participated in the 1986 FIBA World Championship with the US National Team and together they brought home the gold medal. Smith was also a part of the US National Team during the 1988 Summer Olympics and they brought home a bronze medal. The Philadelphia 76ers selected Smith as the 3rd overall pick in the 1988 NBA Draft, but immediately traded him to the Los Angeles Clippers. During his rookie season, Smith was selected to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. Smith was traded to the New York Knicks in 1992 and remained there until 1996. He spent the 1996-97 season with the San Antonio Spurs before retiring in 1997. Smith founded the Charles D. Smith Foundation and Educational Center in 1989.
