About Bruce Matthews
Bruce Matthews played 19 seasons in the NFL on the offensive line for the Tennessee Titans. Matthews played his collegiate football at the University of Southern California where he earned All-American honors as a senior and captured the Morris Trophy as the Pac-10’s best offensive lineman. In 1983 he joined the Titans, who at the time were named the Houston Oilers, as a first round pick. During his illustrious career he earned 14 Pro-Bowl selections and 10 All-Pro nods while also leading the Oilers to an AFC Championship in 1999 as the leader of their offensive line. The following year he was named the NFL Alumni Offensive Lineman of the Year and Bart Starr Man of the Year in his 17th NFL season. Matthews would go on to be named to the NFL 1990’s All-Decade Team and play the most games ever by an offensive lineman with 296. For his contributions to the Titans franchise they retired his No. 74 jersey just prior to his being elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007. After retiring as a player Matthews became a coach for the Houston Texans from 2009 to 2010 before returning to coach for the Titans from 2011 to 2013.
