About Fran Tarkenton
Fran Tarkenton is a former NFL quarterback, television personality, and computer software executive. The Minnesota Vikings drafted Tarkenton in the third round of the NFL Draft in 1961. Tarkenton played his first NFL game on September 17 against the Chicago Bears. He is the only player in NFL history to pass for four touchdowns in his first NFL game. Tarkenton played for the Vikings from 1961 to 1966 and he was traded to the New York Giants in 1967. He remained with the Giants for five seasons. In 1972, Tarkenton was traded back to the Vikings where he led them to three Super Bowls in the 1970s, but lost all of them. After the 1975 season, Tarkenton won the NFL MVP Award and captured the All-Pro Honors in the process. Tarkenton played 18 seasons in the NFL and ended his career with the Minnesota Vikings. In 1977, Tarkenton was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1986 and then in 1987, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. In 2000, Tarkenton was inducted into the Athens Hall of Fame.
