About Aaron Peirsol
Aaron Peirsol was one of the most successful American swimmers of his generation. Peirsol is a five-time Olympic gold medalist and won seven medals overall. He originally made his debut at the Olympics at the age of 17 in 2000 and won a silver medal in the 200-meter backstroke. Overall, Peirsol won 36 medals in international competition. During a time where Michael Phelps was dominating the sport, he still managed to win American Swimmer of the Year in 2005. That year, Peirsol won three golds at the World Championships and set a new world record in the 200-meter backstroke. He officially retired from swimming in 2011 and was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 2016.
