U.S. Soccer Federation President Sunil Gulati Kicks Off Jacksonville Sports Council Speaker Series

One of the most influential figures in American soccer is headed to Jacksonville, Florida to speak next month.  U.S. Soccer Federation President Sunil Gulati kicks off the Jacksonville Sports Council's speaker series on August 31st. 

This first event will be held at noon at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront and individual tickets to attend are $50.  It will be a nice primer for the World Cup qualifier the U.S. men's national team is scheduled to play against Trinidad & Tobago in town on August 6th.  

Gulati will share insights from a career working in soccer.  The city is certainly becoming a bigger market for the sport with the Jacksonville Armada from the North American Soccer League now in town.  

Gulati has been president of U.S. Soccer since 2006.  He has held many positions within the organization throughout his lengthy career and has been on the Board of Directors since 1995.  

Most notably, Gulati was deputy commissioner of Major League Soccer from its beginning until 1999.  He has been an instrumental part of the U.S. World Cup efforts as a bid committee member for the 1994 men's tournament and a board member for the 1999 and 2003 women's tournaments.  

Outside of soccer, Gulati is a professor of economics at Columbia University.  He holds a master's degree from the university.
