UConn Legend Breanna Stewart Takes WNBA Step as Top Overall Pick

There was little doubt about who would be the top overall pick in the WNBA Draft Thursday night.  UConn senior Breanna Stewart was indeed the selection by the Seattle Storm at number one.

Stewart led a run of Huskies players chosen with the top three picks in the draft.  Morah Jefferson was the second overall pick by the San Antonio Stars and Morgan Tuck was the third selection by the Connecticut Sun.

No players from the same team had ever been selected 1-3 in WNBA history.  In 2002, UConn had a simliar prodigious run that saw their players taken first, second, fourth and sixth.

Stewart finished as the second leading scorer in UConn history with 2,676 points and is the school's career leader in blocks.  She won an unprecedented four NCAA championships and was named Final Four Most Outstanding Player all four times.

During her senior season, Stewart averaged 19.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3.4 blocks per game.  For her last three collegiate seasons, she was named consensus National Player of the Year and American Athletic Conference Player of the Year.

Before arriving in Storrs, Stewart attended Cicero-North Syracuse High School.  In 2012, she was named Gatorade National High School Player of the Year.
