Toronto Raptors General Manager Masai Ujiri Speaks at UOIT Distinguished Speaker Series

Toronto Raptors general manager Masai Ujiri is one of the most respected names in basketball.  Ujiri recently took time to share how he gained his reputation as part of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology Faculty of Business and Information Technology’s Distinguished Speaker series.

Ujiri spoke to college students at the Oshawa Regent Theater.  He described his journey from growing up in Nigeria to one of the NBA’s most-coveted jobs.

Ujiri also discussed his goals for the future.  He has bold aspirations of leading the Raptors to NBA championships.

The 45-year-old had a meteoric rise to the executive chair in Toronto.  Since he assumed control in 2013, the franchise has made back-to-back playoff appearances.

Following his first season, Ujiri won the NBA Executive of the Year award.  He started his NBA career as an international scout with the Orlando Magic and Denver Nuggets.

He found basketball as a 13-year-old on courts in Nigeria and it would eventually propel him to emigrating to the U.S.  Ujiri played college basketball in the States and six years of pro hoops in Europe.
