Top-Ranked Paraswimmer Elizabeth Marks Receives the Pat Tillman Award for Service at the ESPYs

The ESPYs is known for producing classic moments.  They highlight the best in sports and certainly did so Wednesday night when they honored Sgt. Elizabeth Marks.

Marks received the Pat Tillman Award for Service.  The award began in 2014 and it was established to recognize someone who goes above and beyond in sports and their efforts to serve others.

During her speech, Marks hoped to inspire hope to anyone struggling or hurting.  She originally joined the U.S. Army when she was 17 years old.

Marks suffered a devastating injury to both of her hips when deployed as a combat medic in Iraq.  Following the injury, she found a love of swimming.

Marks was able to use her core strength to become one of the top paraswimmers in the world. She recently won four gold medals at the Invictus Games.

Currently, Marks is the top ranked paraswimmer in the world in the 100-meter backstroke.  This September, she will compete in the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
