Sports and Business Icon Magic Johnson Speaks at Scholarship Luncheon

Magic Johnson has invested in many things in his successful life post-basketball. None of his endeavors may be more important however then the work he does with students.

Johnson was on hand last week at Jackson State University to speak at the 2019 First Lady Scholarship Luncheon. His company, SodexoMAGIC, has an active partnership with the school to provide dining and catering services.

Johnson helped JSU raise money for the general needs of students and also brought along several Los Angeles Lakers items to be auctioned off. During his appearance, he spoke about the importance of giving back.

“We have had thousands and thousands of kids ourselves get scholarships, so it is really wonderful then to be on campus, talking to students," said Johnson. "I have been able to do that twice this morning and then to the student-athletes as well. This is part of who I am and what I love to do."

Johnson originally captivated the nation during his 13 seasons with the Lakers. He won five championships and was a 12-time NBA All-Star.

Johnson won the NBA regular season and NBA Finals MVP three times each. He is a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame and was selected to the league's 50th anniversary team.

Through Magic Johnson Enterprises, Johnson has continued to impact the world as a successful businessman. He has become a leader in the redevelopment of urban communities and has ownership stakes in several professional sports franchises.
