San Francisco Giants Infielder Gordon Beckham Speaks at Georgia Baseball Banquet

San Francisco Giants infielder Gordon Beckham made his return to his college stomping grounds in Athens, Georgia on Friday. He was the keynote speaker at the UGA baseball annual preseason banquet.

Beckham spoke about his time at Georgia and the team's outlook in 2017. Prior to speaking, he practiced with the Bulldogs that afternoon.

It was Beckham's first visit to Athens in four years. Those in attendance enjoyed connecting with one of the top stars in program history.

As a junior, Beckham was SEC Player of the Year and helped UGA reach the College World Series for the second time in his career. The Chicago White Sox then selected him with the eighth overall pick in the 2008 MLB Draft.

A year later, Beckham made his major league debut. He was named American League Rookie of the Year by the Sporting News and the MLBPA.

After five seasons in Chicago, Beckham went on to play with the Los Angeles Angels and the Atlanta Braves. He was traded to San Francisco at midseason last year and resigned with the club in the offseason.
