Retired MLB All-Star J.D. Drew Elected to the College Baseball Hall of Fame

Recognition by the College Baseball Hall of Fame has been a long-time coming for former Major League Baseball outfielder J.D. Drew.  He got the news this week that he will be apart of the Hall's 2016 induction class.

The class will be inducted the weekend of July 1st as part of the Night of Champions celebration in Lubbock, Texas.  Other honorees in the seven-person class include University of Texas baseball coach Augie Garrido and former Arizona State outfielder Rick Monday.

It is the 11th induction class for the College Baseball Hall of Fame.  Individual tickets to the Night of Champions banquet cost $100.

Drew will be the second Florida State player to be enshrined in the Hall.  He was a two-time consenus All-American and won five National Player of the Year awards in 1997.

After being the fifth overall pick of the 1998 MLB Draft, Drew debuted that same year with the St. Louis Cardinals.  He hit .417 in 36 at-bats that first season and would end up have a successful 14-year big league career.

Drew played the first six season of his career with the Cardinals and also spent time with the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers before truly making his mark with the Boston Red Sox.  He won a World Series with Boston in 2007 and the following year was named to his only All-Star squad.
