Retired Defensive Tackle David Rowe Makes Appearance to Commemorate the Super Bowl's 50th Anniversary

Super Bowl XI champion David Rowe went back to his high school for a special NFL initiative.  Rowe headed to Deptford Township High School, joining 2,000 other former Super Bowl winners who all returned to their alma maters.

The athletes presented each school an NFL Wilson Golden Football to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl coming this February.  Rowe had not been back to the Gloucester County area in New Jersey in several years.

He officially presented the football prior to the Deptford-Woodstown football game on Friday night.  While in town, Rowe also was a speaker at the school’s senior banquet and at an Adelphia Restaurant luncheon.

Rowe reached the pinnacle of his career as a standout defensive tackle in that Super Bowl for the Oakland Raiders.  He suited up for four other franchises as well during a 12-year career.

The New Orleans Saints originally selected Rowe in the second round of the 1967 NFL Draft out of Penn State.  As a senior, he played on Joe Paterno’s first Nittany Lions squad.

In retirement, Rowe embarked on a 30-year broadcasting career, working for NBC Sports and calling SEC games for RAYCOM and Jefferson-Pilot.  Even though his days in the booth are done, he still stays active with several speaking engagements every year.
