Race Team Owner Roger Penske Honored During 50th Anniversary Celebration

When you have assembled the career Roger Penske has, anytime you throw a celebration, a star-studded crowd comes out.  Notable names from across the racing industry honored Penske at the 50th anniversary party for his race team last week in Charlotte, North Carolina.

43 of the 85 drivers that have been with Team Penske over the years attended the event at the Charlotte Convention Center's Crown Ballroom.  There was also a special showing by comedian Jay Leno and former President George W. Bush congratulated him by video.

The 79-year-old Penske has no plans on shutting the doors of his successful operation anytime soon.  The team currently boasts stars Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano in their stable of drivers.

Team Penske has had 27 national racing champions, 16 Indianapolis 500 triumphs, and two wins at the Daytona 500.  His drivers have 147 NASCAR victories and Keselowski picked up the team's first premier series championship in 2012.

NASCAR Hall of Famers Bobby Allison and Rusty Wallace drove for Penske as did current standouts like Ryan Newman and Kurt Busch.  The success in IndyCar has been there as well, with 181 Team Penske victories and a record number of Indy 500 wins.

Penske is a member of the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame.  In addition to his work in racing, he is currently a corporate director at General Electric and has served on the boards for The Home Depot and Delphi Automotive.
