Olympic Gold Medalist Davis Tarwater Keynotes Best of Preps Event April 30th

Olympic gold medalist Davis Tarwater was born and raised in Tennessee. That makes him an inspirational choice to serve as the keynote speaker at The Daily Post-Athenian's Best of Preps Student-Athlete Awards Ceremony.

The event takes place on April 30th at Athens City Middle School. At the ceremony, the top athletes from McMinn County, McMinn Central and Meigs County will be honored.

In addition to athletes being honored for their accomplishments on the field, they will also be recognized for their achievements in the classroom and community. Tarwater will certainly have a unique perspective to share with those in attendance.

Tarwater reached the pinnacle of his swimming career in 2012, when he took part in the heats of the 4x200 meter freestyle relay at the Olympics and won gold with Team USA. He previously had competed in four U.S. Olympic Trials.

Tarwater is a former American record holder in the 200-meter butterfly. He participated in the World Championships three times and won a gold in the 4x200 meter freestyle relay in 2009.

At the University of Michigan, Tarwater was a 13-time All-American and won three NCAA titles. He won six Big Ten titles and was the Big Ten Medal of Honor recipient as a senior.
