NHL Star Sidney Crosby Signs Six-Year Endorsement Deal with Adidas

On the eve of the NHL season, Adidas grabbed a big fish from the world of hockey to add to their athlete endorsers.  Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby has jumped ship from Reebok to sign a six-year pact with his new apparel company.

Crosby was already believed to have the biggest endorsement agreement in the sport.  At Adidas, he will be featured in marketing campaigns and have input on future products.

Adidas is by some accounts taking over the NHL.  They have already agreed to be the jersey provider and apparel licenser for the league starting in 2017.

Adidas is also going to outfit next year’s World Cup of Hockey.  That is certainly an event where they will use their partnership with Crosby to fulfill several purposes.

Crosby has been a prodigy since the early days of his career and the Penguins pounced on him with the first pick of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.  He has twice led the league in scoring and been the Hart Memorial Trophy winner as the league’s most valuable player.

Early in his career, Crosby led Pittsburgh to back-to-back Stanley Cups, winning it all in 2009.  He has been team captain since his third season in the league.

Crosby has also been an impactful performer on the international scene.  He has guided Canada to two Olympic gold medals.
