New York Jets Wide Receiver Chris Owusu Mindful of the Dangers of Recurring Head Injuries

This NFL offseason had no shortage of players retiring early to avoid the life-altering ramifications of head injuries that can be incurred while playing.  Even as the league gets set to kick off next Thursday, players are still weighing the risk/reward nature of the sport many have devoted their lives to.

One such athlete pondering potential concerns is New York Jets wide receiver Chris Owusu.  Owusu recently spoke to Yahoo Sports about his trepidation surrounding the concussions he has already suffered and those that he may still have ahead of him on the gridiron.

Owusu has suffered four concussions since he started playing collegiately at Stanford.  One of those occurred during training camp just a few weeks ago.

At the age of 25, Owusu has a chance to make the first real impact of his career with the Jets.  The Tampa Bay Buccaneers originally signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2012 and he has played a total of 22 games since.

Despite being on the verge of a potential breakout, there is no shortage of people who would tell Owusu that maybe he should look down other avenues away from football.  He does take care of his mind and brain better than most and is an active reader.

While Owusu does not have any plans to step away from football at this point, there is no question that the concussion debate will wage on in the mind of players, media, and fans.
