New York Giants Pass Rusher Jason Pierre-Paul Records Fireworks Safety PSA

During this fourth of July weekend, it was the mission of New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul to help others avoid a mistake he made.  After injuring his right hand last year, he cut a public service announcement for the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission about fireworks.

Pierre-Paul urged people to keep fireworks away from kids and leave the lighting of them up to the professionals.  During the spot, he tells CPSC chairman Elliot Kaye about the incident that left his hand permanently damaged.

The PSA shows images from Pierre-Paul's stay in the hospital.  He also shared how he was blessed to still be alive and able to take care of his son.

Despite the incident, Pierre-Paul was able to return to the field with the Giants this season and start eight games.  Throughout his career, the two-time Pro Bowler has been a dominant pass rusher.

In 2011, Pierre-Paul recorded 16.5 sacks and was named a first-team All-Pro.  He helped the Giants shock the world and upset the New England Patriots 21-17 in Super Bowl XLVI.

New York originally selected Pierre-Paul with the 15th overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft.  In his final college season at the University of South Florida, he was a first-team All-American and first-team All-Big East selection.
