New UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Holly Holm's Popularity Grows with Ronda Rousey Defeat

After this weekend’s stunning upset victory over Ronda Rousey, it will be interesting to see what’s next for UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm.  Certainly, it will be hard for Holm to reach the same popularity levels as Rousey, but she does stand to make a jump in the public conscience that is already occurring.

According to hookit.com, she has taken a leap on social media.  Holm was up over one million followers combined on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram since last Thursday.

Her new total of 1.39 million followers is up 289.1 percent.  Rousey actually added slightly more over the same period of time, but with a hefty following already, her growth checked in at just 7.7 percent.

Holm can definitely capitalize on her new status as the “it” girl in mixed martial arts.  Most of her pre-fight endorsement deals were with small companies and dwarfed by Rousey’s pacts with major brands like Reebok, MetroPCS, and Hardee’s.

Holm’s championship background only buttressed by Saturday’s knockout will also be helpful.  Prior to embarking on an MMA career that has her currently standing at 10-0, she was a boxing title holder in three different weight classes.

This weekend, former UFC light heavyweight champion and Holm training partner Jon Jones went to Facebook to declare the 34 year old the greatest of all-time in women’s combat sports.  TMZ Sports also learned the Albuquerque native will receive a nomination for induction into the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame this December.
