NBA Legend Jerry West Keynotes California March Madness Event Next Week

The Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table is bringing an NBA legend on board to speak at their event next week. On Monday, Jerry West is the keynote speaker at their Prelude to March Madness.

The event begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m. at Cabrillo Pavilion. The program starts at 6 p.m. and features a discussion with West and Noozhawk sports editor Barry Punzal.

There will also be an auction and raffle with prizes like basketballs signed by West up for grabs. Tickets are $50, but free to Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Regal members.

West has had a distinguished lifetime in basketball. He played his entire career with the Los Angeles Lakers and was a 14-time All-Star as well as a ten-time All-NBA first-team selection.

West helped lead the Lakers to nine NBA Finals and the franchise won the title in 1972. In 1969, he became the only player to be named NBA Finals MVP despite being on the losing team.

West coached the Lakers for three seasons and had a tremendous run following that stint as the team's general manager. They won six championship rings under his watch.
