MLS Commissioner Don Garber Speaks at Montclair State University Commencement Wednesday

Major League Soccer is on the rise.  Their rapid ascension in the crowded American sports marketplace is definitely something longtime comissioner Don Garber is asked about often.

Garber is bound to share some of his strategies for business success on Wednesday when he speaks to the graduates at Montclair State University.  He is the keynote commencement speaker for the ceremony taking place at 10 a.m. at the Prudential Center in Newark.

The largest graduating class in school history, 4,639 students, will be conferred degrees.  Hearing from Garber, a longtime Montclair resident, makes the day that much more poignant.

Garber has served as MLS commissioner since 1999.  He had spearheaded growth, including the addition of 13 expansion franchises and 15 new soccer-specific stadiums during his tenure.

Since 2005, Garber has been among the 50 most influential people in sports business according to Sports Business Daily.  Just last week, the MLS was named Sports League of the Year as SBJ's Sports Business Awards.

In addition to running MLS, Garber serves as the CEO of Soccer United Marketing and is on the board of directors for the United States Soccer Federation.  Before getting into the soccer business, he worked in the NFL for 16 years.
