Minnesota Vikings Wide Receiver Adam Thielen Keynotes Greater Mankato Area United Way Event

There is no denying that Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen was one of the NFL's breakout stars in 2016. That made him a natural choice to return to the town he played his college ball as keynote speaker at the Greater Mankato Area United Way's third annual men's event.

The festivities took place from 5:30-9:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Kato Ballroom. Thielen talked about perseverance, adversity and the work he does to give back to the community.

Tickets to attend were $65 and proceeds benefited the United Way's programs. Each year, the event generates about $23,000 for the chapter.

Thielen emerged as one of the most reliable pass catchers in football this past year. He caught 69 balls for 967 yards and five touchdowns.

Pro Football Focus ranked Thielen as the 18th best wide receiver in the NFL. It was quite the turn of events for a player originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Minnesota State in 2013.

Thielen spent that rookie season on the practice squad. The next two years, he started two games apiece before turning heads in 2016.
