Houston Astros First Baseball Tyler White Speaks at Western Carolina Baseball Celebration

One of the more successful alumni in the recent history of Western Carolina baseball is headed back to campus. Houston Astros first baseman Tyler White is speaking at the Celebration of Catamounts Baseball on February 4th. 

The event is being held at the A.K. Hinds University Center Grand Room. In addition to White speaking, he will be honored for his accomplishments during his rookie season. 

Festivities begin with a meet-and-greet social hour at 5 p.m. Tickets to attend are $75 and tables of eight are $500 with all proceeds benefiting the baseball program. 

White made the Astros Opening Day roster in 2016 and got off to a tremendous start. He hit .556 with three home runs and nine RBI while setting a Houston team record for hits in his first five games. 

For his outstanding performance, White was named American League Player of the Week. Overall, he played in 86 big league games and hit eight homers. 

Houston originally selected him in the 33rd round of the 2013 MLB Draft. He was the Southern Conference Player of the Year and an All-American while at Western Carolina.
