Hockey Icon Brendan Shanahan Speaks at Sports Industry Conference

The University of Toronto Sports and Business Association and Rotman Sports Business Association held their sixth annual Sports Industry Conference February 10-11. Top executives lent their expertise to the proceedings, including hockey great Brendan Shanahan

The overall theme of the event was, "Positioning in Sports." Shanahan was the final speaker of the two-day conference and he was able to talk about the current work he does with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Shanahan also talked about making moves with big risks attached. He mentioned the importance of the Maple Leafs logo on their brand, not any one player.

Shanahan notched 1,354 points in 1,524 career games. He was an eight-time All-Star who played 21 NHL seasons for six different franchises.

Shanahan stands as the only player in league history with over 600 goals and 2,000 penalty minutes. While he was with the Detroit Red Wings, he won three Stanley Cups.

Shanahan is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame and was named one of the 100 Greatest Players in NHL History at the All-Star Game this year. He currently serves as Maple Leafs President and Alternate Governor.
