Hall of Famer Thurman Thomas Fights for Bail Reform in Buffalo

Buffalo Bills legend Thurman Thomas still has influence in the city he starred in throughout his football career. He is using that platform to advocate for bail reform in Erie County.

Thomas recently spoke to the Erie County Legislature about ways the system can change. He says that defendants can be in jail for weeks for minor crimes and that it can adversely effect their lives.

Thomas also pointed out the strain this puts on taxpayers having to cover the bill for these individuals' jail time. Local lawmakers are currently mulling over a bail reform bill that will ask the state for financial help as they transition their system.

After Thomas' outstanding accomplishments on the football field,it makes sense that people would listen to his perspective. He spent 12 of 13 seasons in Buffalo and rushed for 12,074 yards and 65 touchdowns in his career.

Thomas was a five-time Pro Bowler, two-time first-team All-Pro and the 1991 NFL MVP. He also helped the Bills reach four consecutive Super Bowls.

Thomas played for the Miami Dolphins for one season before retiring in 2001. He has his jersey retired by Buffalo and is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
