Hall of Fame Running Back Emmitt Smith Keynotes Alabama Salvation Army Fundraiser

Emmitt Smith lent his time yesterday to help the Salvation Army in Mobile, Alabama.  The Hall of Fame running back was the keynote speaker at their annual fundraising luncheon.

Around 500 people showed up to hear Smith speak.  He talked about his affinity for the Salvation Army and how he grew up playing sports at his local branch.

Smith spoke about how he used football as tool for a successful life after he stopped playing.  He also discussed the success of the current Dallas Cowboys team.

During his career, Smith ran 4,409 times for an NFL-record 18,355 yards and 164 touchdowns.  He spent 15 seasons in the league, almost all of them with the Cowboys.

Smith won Super Bowl titles with Dallas in 1992, 1993 and 1995.  In that second championship season, he was NFL MVP and Super Bowl XXVIII.

In retirement, Smith has been a television analyst and "Dancing with the Stars" winner.  He also has found success in the real estate development business.
