Georgia Names Inside the NBA Host Ernie Johnson Commencement Speaker

Inside the NBA host Ernie Johnson is well-respected throughout the sports world. He is also a University of Georgia alum and will return to the school next month to serve as commencement speaker. 

The ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. on May 5th at Sanford Stadium. Tickets are not required to attend the undergraduate and graduate events. 

Johnson began his media career while at UGA as a news and sports director for WAGQ-FM in Athens. He has just recently published his first book, "Unscripted: The Unpredictable Moments That Make Life Unpredictable." 

Johnson has been the studio host for Turner's NBA coverage for 27 years. He also anchors their coverage of the NCAA Tournament and is a play-by-play voice on MLB games. 

Early in his career, Johnson was a news reporter and news anchor at stations in Macon, Georgia and Spartanburg, South Carolina. He also spent seven years at WSB-TV in Atlanta. 

In addition to working at Turner, Johnson called Atlanta Braves games on SportSouth from 1993-96 with his father, Ernie Johnson Jr. He is a survivor of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
