Former NHL Veteran Sheldon Kennedy Speaks at Thompson Rivers University Athletics Scholarship Breakfast in September

Former NHL veteran Sheldon Kennedy is making an appearance this fall on behalf of Thompson Rivers University. He will speak at the Annual WolfPack Scholarship Breakfast on September 28th.

TRU professor Peter Soberlak played junior hockey with Kennedy and was able to secure his participation. The evening prior to the breakfast, he will also put on a special presentation and show his documentary Swift Current

Kennedy's Respect Group will be a sponsor of the upcoming USport men's soccer nationals as well. He hopes his involvement starts a dialogue about important issues.

After revealing that he was abused by his junior league coach, Kennedy became known for raising awareness for sexual abuse. He has rollerbladed across Canada to raise money and serves as an ambassador for the Canadian Red Cross.

In 2006, Kennedy released his autobiography, Why I Didn't Say Anything - The Sheldon Kennedy Story. He was named a Member of the Order of Canada in 2014.

Kennedy had an eight-year NHL career split between the Detroit Red Wings, Calgary Flames and Boston Bruins. The Red Wings originally selected him in the fourth round of the NHL Entry Draft.
