Former NBA Player Brian Grant Keynotes Adaptive Sports Northwest Celebration

Even in retirement, former NBA player Brian Grant has continued to make an impact in the community. On October 27th, he was the keynote speaker at the Adaptive Sports Northwest celebration.

The banquet was held at Double Tree Hotel Lloyd Center. Adaptive Sports Northwest was recognizing 35 years of running sports programs for physically challenged residents.

Grant discussed his own personal challenges with depression and his diagnosis of Parkinson's syndrome. He said that physical activity and friendships are keys to dealing with his condition.

Before being a standout in the NBA, Grant was a two-time Horizon Player of the Year at Xavier University. He left school as the program's second-leading scorer and third-leading rebounder.

The Sacramento Kings selected Grant with the eighth overall pick in the 1994 NBA Draft and he was named to the All-Rookie Team in 1995. After three years with the Kings, he helped the Portland Trail Blazers reach the Western Conference Finals in back-to-back seasons.

Grant had his best season with the Miami Heat when he averaged 15.2 points and 8.8 rebounds in 2001. He also played for the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns before retiring in 2006.
