Former Heisman Trophy Winner Desmond Howard Speaks at Winged Foot Scholar-Athlete Banquet

After a football career where he accomplished almost every feat possible, Desmond Howard is not someone who lacks an inspirational message to share.  Despite all of his honors and accolades however, he preaches a message of never looking back.

On Thursday, Howard shared that with a special group of young people at the Winged Foot Scholar-Athlete banquet.  The 27th annual banquet was held at the Naples Grande in Florida.

Howard was impressed by the group of outstanding scholar-athletes he had a chance to address.  He said it is a lot tougher to do the right thing and stay focused growing up today.

If Howard had any trouble concentrating on the football field, he certainly never showed it.  He broke out on the national stage in 1991, winning the Heisman Trophy while a junior at Michigan.

The Washington Redskins subsequently selected Howard fourth overall in the 1992 NFL Draft.  He embarked on an 11-year pro career where he excelled as a kick returner.

In Super Bowl XXXI, Howard tied a record with 244 all-purpose yards and was named Super Bowl MVP after helping the Green Bay Packers defeat the New England Patriots 35-21.  Currently, he remains in the limelight as a panelist on the award-winning ESPN show, "College Gameday".
