Former Big League Catcher John Flaherty Speaks at St. Joseph Regional High School Commencement

Former major league catcher John Flaherty got a very unique opportunity on June 5th.  He was the commencement speaker at his alma mater, St. Joseph Regional High School.

Flaherty graduated from St. Joseph in 1985.  He spoke to a class of 112 at the ceremony inside the school's gym. 

The Class of 2016 earned over $20 million in scholarship money.  It was St. Joseph's 51 commencement proceeding. 

Flaherty played over 1,000 big league games in a career that spanned from 1992-2005.  He was originally drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 1988, making his pro debut with the club in 1992. 

From 1998-2002, Flaherty was an early star for the expansion Tampa Bay Devil Rays.  He finished his career in 2005 playing with the New York Yankees.

After retirement, Flaherty went into broadcasting with the Yankees.  He is an analyst for the YES Network and has received three New York Emmy Award nominations for his work.
