Former Baseball Star Dwight Gooden to Speak at Hot Stove Dinner

No one was bigger in baseball when Dwight Gooden was starring for the New York Mets. Next month, he will make an appearance near where he used to dominate opposing batters at the Union County Baseball Association's 83rd annual Hot Stove Dinner.

The event in Clark, New Jersey takes place on February 10 at 1 p.m. at The Gran Centurions. Tickets are currently available

Gooden will speak, entertaining the audience with stories from his 16-year career in Major League Baseball. Four people will also be inducted into the Union County Baseball Hall of Fame.

Gooden won a total 191 games and racked up over 2,000 strikeouts. He was an immediate sensation when he joined the Mets in 1984, winning National League Rookie of the Year and leading the league in strikeouts.

Gooden went on to win NL Cy Young Award in 1985 and helped New York win the World Series in 1986. He was selected four All-Star teams during the decade.

Addiction issues plagued Gooden's career, but he rebounded from them to throw a no-hitter and win three more World Series crowns later on with the New York Yankees. He is a member of the Mets Hall of Fame and now speaks to audiences everywhere about the challenges of addiction and recovery.
