Former Atlanta Braves Closer John Rocker Speaks at First Pitch Banquet Sunday

Former major league closer John Rocker is one of the more colorful personalities in recent baseball history. On February 12th, he will share some entertaining stories as a guest speaker at the Walker Valley Baseball Hall of Fame and First Pitch Banquet.

The event will take place from 12-3 p.m. at Walker Valley High School. Individual tickets are $15 and a carry-out lunch is $12.

All proceeds from the banquet benefit the Mustang baseball program. In addition to Rocker, fellow former Atlanta Braves player Otis Nixon will also speak.

Rocker had his playing heyday from 1998-2001 with the Braves. He collected 83 of his 88 career saves in that time period.

Atlanta originally selected him in the 18th round out of high school in the 1993 MLB Draft. Rocker also went on to play a season each with the Cleveland Indians, Texas Rangers and Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

In 2011, Rocker released an autobiography, "Scars and Strikes." He currently serves as the director of public affairs at Save Homeless Veterans.
