College Basketball Great Tom Izzo Speaks at Northern Illinois University's Inaugural Victor E. Ball

Tom Izzo is a legend at Michigan State, but earlier this month he leant his time to another school for a good cause.  Izzo was the keynote speaker at Northern Illinois University’s at the inaugural Victor E. Ball.

The black tie gala benefited and supported NIU student-athletes.  Over 200 guests were in attendance at the Rich Harvest Farms Pavilion.

A cocktail hour and silent auction with over 80 items highlighted the evening.  Izzo agreed to speak because of his connection to NIU’s head basketball coach, Mark Montgomery, a former player and assistant coach at MSU.

Izzo is one of the living legends of college basketball.  He has taken the Spartans to 18 straight NCAA Tournaments and is the longest tenured coach in the Big 10.

MSU also won the title in 2000 and have been to seven Final Fours under Izzo’s watch.  Last season, they made their most recent Final Four run after and finished the season 27-12.

Perhaps most impressively, seven of his assistants including Montgomery have gone on to become Division 1 head coaches.  Izzo’s program has produced 19 NBA players as well.
