Celtics Coach Brad Stevens Speaks at Big Brothers Big Sisters Fundraiser in Indianapolis

The down time in the NBA offseason allows many to pursue opportunities important to them outside of basketball.  Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens recently made a journey to speak back in the city where he built his coaching name.

On Thursday, Stevens addressed the crowd at a Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana fundraiser in Indianapolis.  Nearly 900 people packed the Downtown Marriott for the speech.

Stevens centered the conversation on mentorship.  His ability to speak eloquently about his various mentors fit in well with the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters.

The 38-year-old Stevens has been a coaching prodigy for some time.  This past season, he piloted the Celtics back into the playoffs as a seventh-seed.

Stevens is now two seasons in to a 6-year, $22 million contract in Boston.  He signed the deal following tremendous success at Butler University.

The Bulldogs made it to back-to-back NCAA title games under his watch.  In six seasons at the helm, Stevens’ teams made the tournament five times.

Overall, he was 166-49 at Butler.  Stevens also won two Horizon League Coach of the Year awards while the Bulldogs captured three conference championships.
