There is no question that one of the NFL's biggest stars on defense is Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly.  One Charlotte-based company has leveraged their local base to partner up with the hometown star. 

Protein powder start-up Eat the Bear has agreed to an endorsement deal with Kuechly.  He has a three-year pact with the company that includes an equity stake. 

In addition, Kuechly is going to be on the Eat the Bear board of directors and appear prominently in brand advertising.  He is also going to be an active participant helping develop products for their sports performance line. 

Kuechly has been named a Pro Bowler and first-team All-Pro for three straight years.  Last season, he racked up 118 tackles in just 13 games and helped the Panthers reach the Super Bowl.

In 2013, Kuechly became the third-youngest NFL Defensive Player of the Year ever.  That followed a strong first season when he racked up a league-leading 164 tackles on the way to NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. 

Carolina selected Kuechly with the ninth overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.  He had a banner career at Boston College, leaving the school as a three-time first-team All-American.
