Astros Star Rookie Carlos Correa Signs Exclusive Memorabilia Contract with Topps

There is no denying Carlos Correa’s impact on baseball and the Houston Astros despite not even being three months in to his major league career.  Correa has started to cash in on his great marketing potential off the field as well.

This week, the trading card company Topps signed the Astros shortstop to an exclusive autograph memorabilia deal worth over $1 million, per ESPN’s Darren Rovell.  The multi-year pact allows them to sell Correa merchandise and for his signed cards to appear solely in Topps packs.

Correa’s agreement is somewhat groundbreaking for Topps as well.  This will be the first time they branch outside of selling cards to offer other autographed items.

Correa has been a revelation since his call-up to Houston on June 8th.  He is currently hitting .278 with 15 homeruns, 43 RBI, and 11 stolen bases while helping the Astros continue to contend for an American League West title.

After a debut June that saw him set a franchise record with 20 hits in his first 15 games, Correa was named AL Rookie of the Month.  He also hit more homers than any shortstop in baseball history through his first 50 games.

The Astros originally selected Correa out of Puerto Rico with the first pick in the 2012 MLB Draft.  Ever since, he has been regarded as one of the top prospects in baseball.
