American Sprinter Justin Gatlin Speaks at Hometown Banquet Next Month

American sprinter Justin Gatlin is speaking at a special event in his hometown next month. He will speak at the Pensacola Sports Cox Annual Awards Banquet.

The festivities take place at 6:30 p.m. on February 20th at New World Landing. Local student-athletes and outstanding area teams will be recognized for their accomplishments.

There will also be the presentation of the Sportsman of the Year and members will be inducted into the Pensacola Sports Hall of Fame. Individual tickets are $75 and tables of ten are $750.

Gatlin is coming off the highlight of his career this summer when he beat Usain Bolt to win gold in the 100 meters at the IAAF World Championships. He has won eight medals at Worlds in his career, including gold in the 100m and 200m in 2005.

Gatlin is also a five-time Olympic medalist and winner of the 100m gold medal at the 2004 Games. When he won a silver medal in the 100m at the 2016 Olympics, he became the oldest sprinter to ever medal in a non-relay event.

Gatlin attended college at the University of Tennessee and won six consecutive NCAA titles before turning professional in 2002. Due to his tremendous speed, he has worked out with NFL teams in the past as a wide receiver.
