All-Star Slugger Nelson Cruz Speaks to Middle School Students in New York City

Last month, Seattle Mariners All-Star Nelson Cruz took some time to speak to a group of middle school students in New York City. His appearance was on behalf of The Young Men and Women's Hebrew Association of Washington Heights and Inwood.

Cruz's took part in their School's Out New York City Program. He spoke to students at Harbor Heights Middle School.

Harbor Heights has a significant Dominican immigrant population. Cruz being Dominican born himself made his presentation especially powerful.

In 2011, Cruz hit a postseason series-record six home runs and 13 RBI in the American League Championship Series to win MVP honors and lead the Rangers to the World Series. He made a return to the playoffs in 2014 with the Baltimore Orioles after leading baseball with 40 home runs during the regular season.

Cruz was originally signed out of the Dominican Republic by the New York Mets. He spent several seasons in the minoir leagues before debuting with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2005.
